Playing helps improve sleep - Snoozebaby

Playing before bed: how it helps you get a good night's sleep

How does play contribute to a good night's sleep? By helping your child process emotions, you prevent them from going to bed with a head full of stimuli. Playing (together or alone) before bed is a great way to find the right balance between excitement and relaxation. And of course, sleeping in the softest pajamas also helps enormously!

Processing emotions through play

Your child experiences a lot during the day: new impressions, sounds, people, and situations. This can be exciting and sometimes even a little confusing. Through play, your child can re-enact everything they've seen and felt. This helps them understand and release emotions.

A short playtime before bed can be very valuable. With a simple game, cuddles, or some gentle role-play, you give your child the space to end the day. This way, they'll go to bed feeling more at ease.

Balance between tension and relaxation

Playing doesn't have to be busy or wild to be fun. Quiet play works well just before bedtime. Think of a puzzle, reading books, putting stuffed animals on the bed, or making up a story together. These kinds of activities gradually transition your child from active to relaxed.

By establishing a consistent ritual of playing, washing, putting on pajamas, and going to bed, your child knows exactly what's coming. This provides stability and security. And the safer your child feels, the easier it is to fall asleep.

The importance of soft and comfortable nightwear

Besides a calming ritual, comfortable nightwear also contributes to a good night's sleep. Itchy fabric, sweating, or being too cold can keep your child awake or make them restless. Soft, breathable fabrics are therefore a good choice.
